Grid Touch for Symbian^3

I know y'all are crazy for some Qt apps, so here's a great replacement for the native Symbian menu system. Some of might remember an app called Grid Touch. Well, now the boys at OffScreen Technologies have yet again, true to their form, updated their previous app to Qt. And BTW, it's free!

Let me present to you the Grid Touch 1.5 Qt. It's an replacement app for those whom are tired to the native Symbian menu system. Grid Touch 1.5 consist of 9 different menu pages which can be previewed all at once or can be zoomed in at will (or touch of your finger to be precise). Given the fact that this app is written in Qt, it's o'so smooth and fluid. There's a nice little elastic transition effect between pages. Subtle, but nice.

Here are the main features of Grid Touch 1.5 Qt:
- Menu key integration (can be switched off at will)
- You can hide apps from the Grid Touch menu
- You can organize the order of the apps easily
- Wallpaper can be changed (there are many different wallpaper, but apparently you cannot use your own picture as wallpaper)
- You can rename the pages
- Search via text

Only downside I noticed was that, when you pressed the menu key, you could see a glimpse of the native menu before entering the Grid Touch menu. All in all, it's a great choice over the native menu system, IMHO. I suggest you to try it out.

- Qt 4.7.2 + QtMobility 1.1.1 + QtWebkit 4.7.2

Note:
If you delete some unuseful apps from the grids, (Long-press on the icon, then drag to trash) they will get replaced with new ones that weren't there.
If nothing happens, then you can long-press on an icon, then leave it, then touch the "Trash" icon and you'll get all the apps that are hidden from the grid, and you can place them wherever you want. (There should be plenty, you can scroll-down for the rest of them.)


Nokia announces N8 Pink

Nokia try to give a new touch to one of its smartphones, Nokia N8. Now, the phone based on Symbian operating system that comes in pink color variants. N8 targeted to women.
This is seen from some of the applications available on mobile phones was specifically intended to womanhood, for example, Elle fashion applications. From the side of the device, no change at all on this handset when compared with Nokia N8 of another color version. He still brings features like 12 megapixel camera.



For software, this phone seems to have adopted the renewal of the Symbian OS which labeled the name Anna. Symbian Anna promised to bring some changes such as a faster browser.

Not clear, when N8 pink widely launched to the market. It seems, no longer.

Portrait-QWERTY Keyboard with Multi Functions method

If you are looking for a Full English Portrait QWERTY Keyboard with Multi Functions in each Key Pls see the instructions below. Download all files and here is instruction for Installing Baidu :
1. unistall baidu/any other virtual keyboard present in your phone
2. switch off / switch on phone
3. install baidu input baiduinput[1].sisx
4. delete all files from c:\baidu\input\touchskin using file explorer in phone
5. delete all files from c:\baidu\inpu[\touchskinw using file explorer in phone
6. copy this 2 files 1) OperaMini_byFiji.zip 2) OperaMW_byFiji.zip to mass drive in phone
7. rename the files .zip to .bdskt (VERY IMPORTANT)
8. run the 2 files which was stored in mass drive
9. enable baidu (How to enable baidu input google search)

Instructions for installing iPhone type Keyboard:
1. unistall baidu/any other virtual keyboard present in your phone
2. switch off / switch on phone
3. install baidu input baiduinput[1].sisx

8. run the 2 files which was stored in mass drive
9. enable baidu (How to enable baidu input google search)

HINDI Fonts Instructions
1. copy this files 1)HindiMini_byFiji.zip to mass drive in phone
2. rename the files .zip to .bdskt (VERY IMPORTANT)
3. run the program by touching it
4. to display hindi / english keyboard just swipe your finger over the keyboard to toggle
5. Hindi keyboard on landscape mode is work in progress so you have to wait

How to work with it:

1. After installation, please REBOOT your device. This is very IMPORTANT!
2. After reboot, you can launch it from the application launcher. It's easy to recognise it because it's the only app with Chinese name on my Nokia N8


3. The next step is to enable Baidu Input systemwide. It will be used as the main text entry method in all text areas in all applications. When you launch Baidu Input, you will be presented with a list of 8 options. Select the first one as highlighted in the screenshot (the one on the right) above.

4. A new screen will be opened. Again, please select the first item in the list where AknFEP is displayed. A pop out selection will appear. Select the one that's written in Chinese. This method also can be used to disable Baidu Input if you dont want to use it or you want to uninstall it from your device.

5. You can now exit Baidu Input configuration. But before using it, you need to understand how it works. When you use it for the first time, the portrait QWERTY is not displayed. Instead, a Chinese keypad will be displayed to enter text. Don't worry.


6. You can change that to QWERTY Tap the icon (that is marked in orange – refer to screenshot above, on the left). A pop-up will appear, select the one with number 26 in the beginning, screenshot on the right.
